Review: Tequila Haze by Melissa Toppen (Tequila #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

Can I just say that I was so glad that I already had the ARC for the second novel waiting for me after I got done reading this first one? I found myself absolutely engrossed by the love story of Lennon Claire and Hudson Demasi, and when book one ended in a cliffhanger that had my jaw dropping open in surprise, I needed answers ASAP. I know this may make those of you who are just about to read Tequila Haze somewhat frustrated, and now I may have made it worse with me mentioning my reaction to the cliffy, BUT there's only a two-week wait between books. You can also choose to wait till both books are in your hands before jumping in.

Tequila Haze is the first novel in the Tequila duet written by bestselling author Melissa Toppen. Main characters Lennon Claire and Hudson Demasi are twenty-two and twenty-five, respectively, when they meet at a club while out with each of their best friends. They have a one-night stand but it's a memorable one, with Hudson leaving his number, hopeful Lennon will call. She throws caution to the wind, wanting to see Hudson again, only she sees more than she bargained for and walks away before he even realizes she was there at all. Life moves on, but five years later, Lennon recognizes a voice belonging to country artist Hudson James, aka Hudson Demasi, the same Hudson she's never completely forgotten--not the way he made Lennon feel or how he hurt her heart.

At its most basic, the duet is a second-chance romance. In this first book, we get to see how Lennon and Hudson meet and create the sort of connection that neither one is able to get over even after five years apart. The direction that their story took was mostly unexpected, making for a far more entertaining and enjoyable read that had me fully engaged. The ending does have a cliffhanger that will leave you wishing book two were available in a couple of days rather than in a couple of weeks. Melissa Toppen makes sure that we're as in love with Lennon and Hudson and their story as they are with each other because the hurdle that awaits them is undoubtedly a doozy based on that ending alone. With a whole lot of heart and heat and some great backing from fantastic side characters, Tequila Haze is the five-starred beginning of a duet that you won't soon forget. ♥
