Review: Runaway by Nic Starr

Note: This ARC was provided by Dreamspinner Press in exchange for an honest review.

Runaway is a novella written by author Nic Starr and is the first ever story I've read in Dreamspinner Press's World of Love collection. This second chance romance has Dr. Nathan Powell making the move back to his hometown after having left it as well as his family and his first love behind twelve years ago. Not much has changed though because he's still going to have to keep his sexuality under wraps in order to make sure his patients aren't wary about his being gay. When his path crosses with that of Damien Sinclair, however, Nate is bombarded with a myriad of feelings, especially with the way things ended. But his new practice and contemplating whether he and Damien can actually be friends--with or without benefits--again takes a backseat when Nate's nephew runs away.

This was my fourth Nic Starr read and so far, I still find myself wholly entertained with the author's writing, though this probably wouldn't rate as my favorite. The timeline was confusing because the details weren't all that clear, trickling out now and again. They got caught, Nate ran off, but then they were actually still together, but then he left for university, and yet they were still getting together whenever Nate was back in town for visits, and so on. Other than that, I did like how these two rekindled their romance, but it was the side story involving Jackson, Nate's nephew, that was my favorite thing about the book. What Jackson had been going through was the eye opener that Nate truly needed to make the necessary shift in his way of thinking. I'm giving four stars to Runaway. ♥
