Review: Reckless Refuge by Catherine Cowles (Wrecked #4)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR.

Catherine Cowles delivers once again! Her Wrecked series has turned out to be one of the highlights of both last year and this year. Four books in and this series continues to gift readers with the kind of stories that tug at your heartstrings without pandering to your emotions. Reckless Refuge is the newest addition, and it's the story of a woman living her life in solitude out of necessity and a man seeking solace and both find love and freedom instead. Do note that this book, just like those before it, may be read as a standalone, but because there are recurring characters, you may want to read this great series in order.

Shay McCabe is content with her life on Anchor Island. She's the caretaker for the family that owns it, and happily tends to the place, used to being on her own. This is the way it must be. Then she learns that the family has sold the property but note that the new owner hopes Shay will stay on as property manager. When she meets her new boss, she notes that Brody James is both gorgeous and broken in some way. He isn't immediately forthcoming, but Shay knows all about the importance of keeping secrets. As the two become closer, they dare to start living in the light again, inspiring each other to move forward and grow. What happens when the darkness of the past comes looking for them?

Shay and Brody were such beautiful main characters, and the growth that they go through as the story progresses was a sight to behold. They became each other's refuge when they needed it most. Of course, Catherine Cowles created this balance between the romance that was happening with Shay and Brody and the more suspenseful aspects of their story. If you've yet to read books by this author or haven't dived into the Wrecked series, I suggest you rectify that as soon as possible. I'm giving Reckless Refuge five stars.
