Review: Fearless by Abby Brooks (Wildrose Landing #1)

It's been a while--like two or three years--since I last read something by Abby Brooks, and I'm so happy to have had the opportunity to re-introduce myself to her writing by way of her new series starter! Fearless is the first novel in Brooks's Wildrose Landing small town romance series, and readers meet two authors--one aspiring but lacking confidence, the other bestselling but lacking inspiration. Eveline McAllister was dumped by her boyfriend before being dropped by her boss, and all she wants is a chance to start over. She gets that opportunity when she decides to check out the house her great aunt left her in Wildrose Landing--a house that is rumored to be haunted! However, it's a certain neighbor who turns out to be a bestselling author that's been haunting her thoughts. The clincher is that Alexander Prescott wants to hire her to help him out with his newest manuscript. He says he's struggling, but something tells Evie that isn't the whole story. The thing is, she hasn't shared her own tale with Alex either. Will their story end happily?

Alex and Evie were such a joy to get to know! Reading their story was a fantastic way to start the week. This was a fairly lighthearted read, with some really great humor that brought a smile to my face. There was a hint of angst, enough to mesh perfectly with the story and enough to satisfy even an angst addict like me. The idea of Evie deciding "fearless" was going to be her word was inspiring because saying "yes" to everything is, indeed, a scary notion. But I loved seeing her gain confidence and have a stronger footing in her life. Alex, on the other hand, needed inspiration in his writing, but he also found inspiration in real life. His fur babies, Morgan the dog and Larry the cat, earn bonus points, while the supporting human characters have me curious as to what stories await them as the Wildrose Landing series moves forward. Abby Brooks's Fearless gets 4.5 stars.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
