Review: When Darkness Ends by Marni Mann (Moments in Boston #3)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

When Darkness Ends is the third novel in Marni Mann's Moments in Boston series, and just like the two before it, this can be read as a standalone. (But hey, who am I to deprive you of two awesome reads?! Go ahead and read When Ashes Fall and When We Met anyway.) That being said, the male main character here was best friends with one of the male main characters in the series starter. So, if you're like me and you've already read the previous books, then Ashe Flynn should be familiar to you. This is his story, one he shares with Pearl Daniels, but it's also shared by a third character, Kerry Mills. I won't tell you how they're tied together, but what I will say is that each has respective viewpoints.

I'm not going to mention anything in this review with regards to the story line other than it's basically split into two parts--Before and After--and that Ashe and Pearl meet as college students. The book certainly has the romance down pat, but it also has a darker feel to it, particularly when it comes to the second part of the book. There's a heavier touch of suspense as well, which is something I appreciate since it distinguishes itself from its predecessors but not overly so. Admittedly, this does fall a bit short when compared to the first two books. That's not to say that it isn't a great read; it is, just not of equal impact as the other two. Still, I did enjoy reading When Darkness Ends. Four stars.
