Review: The Edge of Heaven by Gia Riley (Broken Wings #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.

The Edge of Heaven is the conclusion to the Gia Riley-penned duet, Broken Wings, and it most certainly didn't go in the direction I thought it would, which in this case was a really good thing. You know how you read one book that ends in a cliffhanger, and then you anticipate its sequel and have everything that you expect to happen panned out in your head? Well, when the main characters found themselves in dire straits by the end of the first book, Wrong Side of Heaven, I thought I had a basic idea of where the second book would basically be headed to. Well, obviously, the author knew better, and what she gave readers in this series ender wasn't merely a step up from the series starter, but this, oddly enough, felt as if the tale ended the way it should have.

She may only be seventeen, but Winnie's life has taken more turns and twists than someone twice her age. At the end of the day, this truly was her story to tell, and it's one that tests here time and again. I wouldn't call her perfect, but she's a young woman who's been made stronger by her circumstances. She bowed and bent, but not once was this teenager ever truly broken, and that's what made her such a standout to me. Trey and Jasper remain constants in her story, and to be honest, I did prefer one over the other. I won't say what happens to either of them and how they play a role in this second half of Winnie's story, but this is where I'll reiterate what I said earlier: this is Winnie's story, and Gia Riley gave her an ending worthy of someone who fought hard and won. FYI: You'll need to read the books in order; neither one is a standalone. Five stars for The Edge of Heaven. ♥
