Review: The Lying Hours by Sara Ney (How to Date a Douchebag #5)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

Sara Ney delivers what I think is the best book in her How to Date a Douchebag series yet, and I'm absolutely saying that based on the fact that The Lying Hours is my favorite of the lot. This was exactly what I needed after reading a slew of angsty romances because this novel did the romantic comedy sub-genre proud. Abraham Davis is so not a douchebag. He's the sort of guy you want in your corner, whether it be in the wrestling ring or as your virtual wingman, which is exactly what he ends up being when he decides to help his brokenhearted roommate out. What's the harm in getting the guy back in the dating game by setting him up on a few dates through the campus-exclusive app that may lead him to his Miss Right? Well, Abe didn't quite count on Skylar Gabriel. She's sworn off all douchebags, but the guy she's met on the LoveU app seems to be her unicorn. She's been matched with someone named JB, aka Abe's roommate! Except it isn't Abe's roommate she's been exchanging messages with. He's not the guy she's formed a connection with--but how does Abe admit the truth to the girl he's fallen for?

This had a modern-day, digital Cyrano de Bergerac feel to it but with Sara Ney's distinct flair for humor and romance. I loved both Abe and Skylar and while everything between them becomes complicated thanks to the whole app fiasco, the connection between them was simply undeniable. When I wasn't laughing my butt off, I was grinning like a loon, and since I was reading this in public, I most certainly was getting looks from some of the people around me who were probably thinking I was some sort of weirdo. But hey, I only have this author's penchant for writing the sort of rom-com that elicits strong, positive reactions out of me to blame. I love it when a series seems to get better and better with each new book that's released, and that's certainly the case with the How to Date a Douchebag series. Just a quick FYI: Abe was never a douchebag! He's easily made my list of favorite book boyfriends for 2019. That doesn't mean no douchebags were present here, however, it was NOT Skylar's Abe. This series better not be ending anytime soon because I haven't gotten my fill yet! 4.5 stars go to The Lying Hours. ♥
