Review: Libby Lane by C.E. Johnson (Jasper Creek #1)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions.

C.E. Johnson is a new-to-me author and my introduction to her writing was by way of her Jasper Creek series starter. Libby Lane is a romance novel with a mystery suspense element to it. We meet CoraLynn Holmes, who works as a florist at her mother's flower shop, and Wyatt Abernathy, a transplant from Atlanta and a police officer with the Holland City Police Department. The two don't have the most auspicious of first meetings, but an unexpected friendship blossoms when their respective stubbornness gives way to accepting help and a listening ear. That friendship soon gives way to something more between them, but even as they bask in their newfound love, obstacles are consistently and persistently heading their way. However, one particular obstacle could prove to be more difficult to hurdle, especially when it becomes clear that Cora's life is danger. Will Wyatt save her in time?

This turned out to be a good read, one that had a fine balance of romance and suspense, without having to over-compensate on either end. I enjoyed seeing Cora and Wyatt's relationship evolve and flourish as they spent more time together. They may have seemed like an unlikely couple in the beginning because there was a push-back on both ends, but they had a strong connection and far more similarities than differences. When it came to the mystery and suspense aspects of the story, I did have one suspect very early on--like, when they were first introduced in the story--and they remained my sole suspect throughout. Their motivation for doing what they did was also what I expected it to be. Although I was proven to be right, my interest in seeing how everything would be revealed didn't wane. Libby Lane gets four stars, and look forward to more from C.E. Johnson and her Jasper Creek. ♥
