Review: Nothing Ventured by Kristen Luciani (Venture #2)

Mia Bradshaw is a single mom who knows her priorities and number one on that list is providing the best possible life for her nine-year-old daughter Chloe. She's working side by side with the CEO of the one of the country's top venture capitalists and is proving to be essential to his team. Falling in love is a distraction she doesn't need, but when she meets entrepreneur Chris Camden, she can't help but be attracted to the guy. Yet, she knows his type: rich playboy who adds a new notch to his bedpost each and every time he can. But then she quickly learns that there's more to Chris than his reputation with women, and the more time she's with him, the more she finds herself falling for him. Unfortunately, if it comes down to a choice between Chris and her career, she knows which to choose--even if it leads to heartbreak.

Nothing Ventured is the second novel in author Kristen Luciani's contemporary romance Venture series and while I enjoyed the first novel, Unlikely Venture, which was about James Callahan and Jessica Latham, I couldn't help but fall in love with this love story of Chris Camden, James's best friend and business partner, and Mia Bradshaw, right-hand person of Paul Emerson, Jessica's one-time fling. This was a well-written and well-paced romance that had familiar elements yet was never boring from the first page 'til the grin-enducing end. Still set in the world of venture capitalism, this sequel was able to set itself apart from its predecessor, and I feel that it was actually able to surpass the expectations that come with a book following a successful series starter. Aside from Chris and Mia, it's also got a strong supporting cast.

Mia is female lead character a lot of women can relate to--someone who gives her all at work in order for her child to have the best life possible but leaving her with very little time to actually raise and be with her child. She strives to strike a balance and she thinks that equates to her not having time for anything other than work and her daughter. Her dating life has her going out with a guy she deems as safe, but the one person who tempts her is Chris, a man she has to work with. Yes, Chris had a reputation, but he really was a nice guy and was someone who was dedicated to and loved his family and friends. I liked how he changes after he meets Mia because it was gradual and felt more believable. Whoever said business and pleasure don't mix needs to read Kristen Luciani's Venture series. Nothing Ventured was quite a fab read. 4.5 stars! ♥
