Misty Reynolds is a city girl from Dallas sent by the company she works for as a troubleshooter to Wildcat Bluff to learn what she can about a mysterious fire that cost them merchandise and money. When she comes across a shirtless man and he asks for her help in putting out a fire, what was supposed to be a an investigation under the ruse of a vacation becomes something more. She's dubbed "Christmas angel" by oh-so-hot Trey Duvall and people in town take a liking to her, a feeling that is quite mutual. But Trey has no idea that Misty works for the company that's been itching to buy a part of his family's land. Once her cowboy firefighter learns the truth, could a broken heart be another reason for Misty to hate the holidays?

A cowboy who just happens to be a volunteer firefighter is one hot combo and he comes to life in author Kim Redford's A Cowboy Firefighter for Christmas, the first in her Smokin' Hot Cowboys series. This was a well-written contemporary romance set in a small town in Texas that brings together a city girl and a country boy. Theirs isn't a case of insta-love but they do move toward love really quickly, considering the story only covers a few days. Misty has issues when it comes to fire and the holidays and I liked how being with someone like Trey who fights fires and lives in a town that celebrates Christmas with fervor gives her an opportunity to truly move past it all. The secret she keeps is obviously a point of conflict between them.

As far as the mystery about the fires in the town of Wildcat Bluff are concerned, I already had my suspicions very early and was proven right in the end. While that was interesting, it really is the romance between Misty and Trey that made this a good read. Add to that both of them working side by side to solve not just the clear cases of arson but also to battle the fires that spring across town, and this had me smiling a number of times. The kitten being saved was an added bonus because it showed Misty as a woman who had a huge heart and became a turning point for her to show her growing love for the town and that she was ready to set down roots. A Cowboy Firefighter for Christmas was a good four-starred series starter. ♥
