Jessica Latham isn't going to allow her multiple sclerosis diagnosis to put a damper on her life. Her fiancé may have bolted on her after she was diagnosed with MS but she's still got her family and best friend supporting her. She's more focused than ever on her career and is going after the promotion that she knows she deserves. When she meets James Callahan, it seems as if fate is letting her know true love waits for no one. But making a go of their relationship has its difficulties, what with them based on opposite coasts and the re-appearance of a one-night stand making a play for her attention. Jessica doesn't want James to know about her one-time thing or her MS diagnosis, but secrets have a tendency of coming out.

Unlikely Venture is the first novel in the Venture series from author Kristen Luciani and is about a young woman diagnosed with multiple sclerosis but refusing to allow herself to wallow in misery. Jessica Latham is ambitious and determined to make her mark in the company she works for. She's come up with an innovative way to prove she can help the company and won't let anyone get in her way. Then James Callahan comes into her life, and while long distance relationships are difficult, what they feel for each other makes them want to take a chance on what they could possibly have. Unfortunately, there are complications that arise and Jessica not being forthcoming could spell the end of what she has with James.

They say that our personal and professional lives should be kept separately, but that's difficult in Jessica's case. You can already tell that her decision to keep secrets from the man she loves is going to come back to wreak havoc. The whole thing with Paul Emerson became a big deal simply because of her silence because it wasn't as if she was ever in love with the guy. I understand her decision to remain mum about her diagnosis because of her experience with her ex-fiancé and because her relationship with James was still in its early stages, but James was such a great male lead character, making him an ideal book boyfriend. All in all, I enjoyed Unlikely Venture and look forward to the second book in the series. I'm giving this four stars. ♥
