Review: One Night in Vegas by CM Stone (Gambling Hearts #1)

Eliza DeMatteo returns to her hometown of Las Vegas to spend time with her brother Jackson as well as see if the it's worth moving back to. Jackson is constantly busy with his work as a trauma surgeon and hasn't had much time to spend with his sister, so he calls in his best friend Christian Yerrick to show Eliza a good time as well as use the opportunity to get in a bit of matchmaking since he knows his sister and best friend would be perfect together. Over a decade since they last saw one another, the pull is stronger than ever, but Chris knows Eliza is only in Vegas temporarily and Eliza has already been rejected by him before.

One Night in Vegas is the first story in the Gambling Hearts series from author C.M. Stone and is a quick read, being novella in length, about two people who once had feelings for one another as teens and find themselves with a second chance at something more. It's been ten years since Eliza DeMatteo and Chris Yerrick last saw one another--she was only sixteen and he was then eighteen and ready to leave for college--but neither has totally forgotten the feelings, both good and bad, that they stirred in each other. With some matchmaking courtesy of Eliza's brother, they have an unforgettable New Year's in their hometown of Sin City, but Eliza lives in Missouri and Chris wants to keep things casual so that neither of them is hurt.

This was short and somewhat sweet and both Eliza and Chris were main characters that were easy to like, though I must say that something Chris said in the story had my eyebrows desperately trying to reach my hairline and found the whole thing just...weird (what Chris said, not my eyebrow thing). Chris was already hurt once when Eliza and her parents moved away without as much as a goodbye (but then he had made it pretty clear that things between the two of them wouldn't progress any further since he was leaving for college) and so I get his need to put the brakes on whatever they were both feeling after their night together. One Night in Vegas was a pretty good second chance romance read. I'm giving this one 3.5 stars. ♥
