Review: Notch in Your Belt by Kayla Bain-Vrba

Wyatt Brave is enjoying success as a country singer and songwriter, having just finished a sold-out tour that began with the release of a bestselling album. Now, he's back in the studio trying to put together his follow-up album and failing miserably. Yes, he's got good songs written down, but they're all about heartache. Now he needs inspiration and his manager sends it to him in the form of keyboardist--and the very guy who Wyatt is hung up on and has been in love with for months--Bryce Masterson. He has no clue that Bryce has feelings for him as well but will an inspiring night together be just another notch in his belt?

Notch in Your Belt is a very quick read from Kayla Bain-Vrba and is about Wyatt Brave, a country artist experiencing a lack of inspiration to write the kind of songs that will have people swooning instead of swearing, and Bryce Masterson, the keyboard player who brings him the inspiration he needs. It takes one blurted out confession from Wyatt to kick Bryce into action, something Wyatt never expects but certainly welcomes. However, after spending the night together, Bryce wakes up without Wyatt by his side and what began as the promising start to possibly something more has left Bryce feeling very hurt and abandoned.

There's a saying that goes "Don't assume. It makes and 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'," and that's exactly the case in this short novella. Both Wyatt and Bryce make assumptions that lead to a heck of unneeded heartache and feelings of abandonment, either of which the two could have been spared had they simply spoken up and talked about their doubts and reservations. The story was a pretty good one, though the whole part about the supernatural stories felt strange and not entirely necessary. I certainly didn't expect the story to go where it did, but I do appreciate that it was able to surprise me a bit. Notch in Your Belt gets 3.5 stars. ♥

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
