Review: Five Things I Love About You by Sarah Ballance (Chase Brothers #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

He gently pulled against her shoulder until she lay on her back, facing him. "Well, guess what. It did. Do you really want to throw that away?"

"Throw what away? Whatever it is, it's temporary. We've known that from the beginning. Why are you trying so hard to define something that can't exist?"

"Because it does exist. And I don't know what to do with that, but I'm not going to turn my back and pretend it doesn't."

Estelle Donovan hates everything about New York, but is stuck spending two weeks apartment-sitting her brother's shoebox of a place. She would love nothing more than to return California and to her job as a landscape architect, surrounded by lush greenery, colorful flora, and the like. She's got her own preconceived notions of the city that doesn't sleep but Crosby Chase is determined to open her eyes and heart to the city he loves. By the time she leaves, he guarantees she'll have at least five things she loves about New York. But it takes less than fourteen days for him to lose his heart to a girl he'll never see again.

Squeeeeee! I've had this ARC sitting pretty on my tablet since I received the widget for it weeks ago and I so regret not reading it sooner, BUT I'm going to go with delayed gratification because Five Things I Love About You, the first in author Sarah Ballance's new contemporary romance series entitled Chase Brothers, was a book that had my cheeks aching from all the damn smiling I was doing. Estelle Donovan and Crosby Chase are my new favorite book couple and Hell Cat, also known as Mortimer, may not get signed to any cat food or kitty litter endorsement deals, but he is one heck of a memorable scene-stealer.

I loved, loved, LOVED this story about a California girl who hates the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle that is New York and falls for a guy who is out to prove how wrong she is about her preconceptions. Estelle and Crosby's tale is filled with hilarity, a lot of which was courtesy of their run-ins with the cat from Hell, but there were also a combination of sweet and steamy moments that had me swooning. Their respective families--Crosby's parents and three brothers and Estelle's brother--were unforgettable and were part and parcel of what made this such an adorably cute love story and was the highlight of my day.

This wasn't an overly lengthy book but it wasn't lacking in any department and it proves that a great story and characters don't need three hundred or more pages in order to make readers fall in love with whatever the author has created for their readers. This was also the kind of series starter that I look forward to reading because it introduces readers to a cast of characters that we'll be coming across throughout the series, making us want to learn more about them and look forward to their own love stories. I'm highly recommending the squee-worthy Five Things I Love About You and it's a 2015 favorite. Five-plus stars! ♥
