Review: Personal Assets by Kelsey Browning (Texas Nights #1)

Note: This ebook was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Allie Shelby has always been seen as Shelbyville's pampered princess, someone who would never go out with someone like Cameron Wright. Allie's good at being a sex therapist but she wants to practice what she preaches, and Cameron seems to be the perfect candidate to help her out with that. So, when she suggests that they engage in a no-strings-attached affair, Cameron is shocked. However, the more they're together, the more it feels like a relationship--complete with deepening feelings and thoughts of commitment. But will they be able to find their way to happily-ever-after when the girl considered the town princess faces the closure of her business and insists she doesn't need rescuing from the guy who insists he's no prince?

Personal Assets is the first book in the Texas Nights series from author Kelsey Browning and is a small town romance between two people who would have never gone out with one another when they were in high school but it's amazing what a few years and a bit of growing up will do to make you see differently. Allie Shelby may have seen Cameron Wright's younger brother as the safer option when they were in high school, but now he's the only one she wants to spend her time with. She may have started the whole thing with Cameron as a purely research type project for her sex therapy business, but feelings begin to get involved and everything becomes far more complicated when a bank loan needs to be paid in two weeks.

Allie and Cameron are highly likable main characters and while there's certainly a lot of heat going on, these two have quite a few humorous encounters together. While their relationship may have started off as purely casual, things escalate pretty quickly but complications also arise soon after. Aside from dealing with their evolving feelings toward each other, their respective dealings with the other's parent (Allie with Cameron's mother and Cameron with Allie's father) adds a layer of tension that they have to handle. This was definitely not your usual damsel-in-distress-with-knight-in-shining (or tarnished)-armor romance and I liked the author's creative take. The rest of the series is on my radar and Personal Assets gets four stars. ♥
