Review: Her Temporary Hero by Jennifer Apodaca (Once a Marine #2)
Threatened by the father of her three-month-old daughter, Becky Holmes needs to find a place to hide while preparing to go to battle for custody of Sophie. The ranch belonging to her employer's cousin sounds like a good place to be at for a few days, but when Logan Knight suddenly returns home and is shocked to find Becky, her daughter, and her dog there, it's clear that he has no idea what's going on. It's obvious that he isn't thrilled to have strangers in his residence, but Becky could be exactly what he needs.
The one thing that Logan wants is the land that is supposed to be his. He has big plans for it--a camp dedicated to helping former Marines deal with their post-traumatic stress disorder--but his father has demands of his own and in order for Logan to claim his land, he'll need to get married. The appearance of Becky may be the solution to his problems and he can provide her the kind of protection and support she needs from her ex, but will they really be able to keep their feelings out of a supposedly temporary union?
Her Temporary Hero is the second book in the Jennifer Apodaca-penned Once a Marine series and is about a single mother trying to protect herself and her daughter from her vengeful ex-boyfriend and the former Marine who serves as her temporary hero. Becky Holmes and Logan Knight have their respective problems to deal with and they come to an agreement on how their current situation can be mutually beneficial. Becky needs money and protection while trying to battle her ex for custody of their daughter while Logan needs a wife so he can get his hands on the land that is rightfully his on his thirtieth birthday.
The thing is, Logan doesn't really deal well with young children because of an incident while he was still on active duty, and with little Sophie being the top priority in Becky's life, things become complicated as their temporary marriage begins to feel real because of their developing feelings for each other. I liked how Becky and Logan earned each other's love and trust and realized that as long as they had one another and their makeshift family, everything else was secondary. Her Temporary Hero was enjoyable and had that a good amount of romance and suspense to keep me hooked from start to finish. This book gets four stars. ♥
