Review: Sexy Dare by Carly Phillips (Sexy #1)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR.

Sexy Dare is the first book in Carly Phillips's new Sexy series and is a spin-off of her highly popular Dare to Love and NY Dares series. This can be read independently of those two previous series, although they're personal favorites of mine and if you're really interested in learning all about the family history of the Dares, you may want to check the books out since the Dare to Love series features the two families that "patriarch"--I use that term really loosely--Robert Dare had and the NY Dares features the cousins, and New York is where Phillips's Sexy series is set.

The Sexy series starter features Jason Dare, co-owner of the TEN29 nightclub and perpetually single--and he has no plans of changing that status ever. When he stops to help sweet shop owner and candy maker Faith Lancaster, he's immediately taken by the beautiful woman's sweet curves and even sweeter nature. When they suspect someone means to harm Faith, Jason's protective nature comes to the forefront. Soon, he has her moving in and keeping her safe, but as drawn to her as he may be, the one thing Jason may not keep Faith safe from is him breaking her heart.

I've been so looking forward to reading this book ever since Carly Phillips announced it! Her Dare to Love series was my introduction to her writing so it holds a special place in my reading history. I adored Faith and loved her confidence and courage and felt she was a good match for someone as anti-relationship as Jason. There were moments I seriously wanted to smack him upside the head, but I also understood why he had his reservations regarding relationships and why he felt he did not deserve it. Thank goodness he had a woman like Faith in his life!

There was a bit of suspense to this book that I appreciated even though who was behind terrorizing Faith was made clear very early on. The romance was there from start to finish, even when Jason was waffling on what to do with his feelings for Faith. It was fun to get glimpses into the lives some of the other Dare siblings were at after reading their happily-ever-afters in their own books over the years. My one quibble would have to be Jason being a billionaire yet needing funding from his cousin Gabe for TEN29. Other than that, I quite liked Sexy Dare. Four stars! ♥
