Review: Goodbye Never by Prescott Lane

Oh, my heart! At its most basic, Goodbye Never is a friends-to-lovers romance, but it's also so much more than that. Prescott Lane has given readers a story of love, friendship, grief, redemption, and family, and goodness, but has she made sure that it's worth reading thanks to fantastic writing in general and just two main characters who have a tale to tell and are worth having a happily-ever-after together. Those main characters are Lennon Barlow and Charles Duke III, the latter a year older than the former, who have been in each other's lives for what feels like forever. And that's exactly what Duke thought he had--forever with the only girl he's ever loved. So biding his time seemed like what made the most sense to him. But it's been said that time waits for no man, and maybe Duke missed out on his chance with Lennon. Then tragedy strikes, and while he knows the best thing was to be Lennon's friend, but Duke also has decided that he's never letting her go.
The blurb for this book truly is just the tip of the iceberg because there is so much story to tell for Lennon and Duke. You can also choose to go into this completely blind and simply allow the story to take you where you need to go. I don't want to give much of anything away because I honestly feel this book must be experienced as everything transpires between Lennon and Duke. Theirs is very much a slow burn romance. Even though Lennon knows she loves Duke, and Duke knows he loves Lennon, it doesn't necessarily mean that getting their happily-ever-after will be free of complications and hurdles. These two took detours separately along their journey, but I appreciated that Prescott Lane presented these as mostly positive milestones, helping to shape both Lennon and Duke into more mature and better individuals with lessons learned. I know what I've said is kind of vague, but allow me to sum it up in six words: Goodbye Never is a five-star read.
