Review: Wicked Flame by Ella Frank (Chicago Heat #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

We're back in Chicago with the second book in Ella Frank's Chicago Heat series! This book is NOT a standalone; Wicked Heat MUST be read prior to Wicked Flame because it features a continuing story line with the same main characters, Ryan Carrigan and Jameson Clarke. Wicked Burn and Wicked Blaze--books three and four, respectively--are supposed to have a different couple, meaning it'll be a separate duet within the same series. Side note: This series is part of the author's Chicagoverse, aka her books that are all set in the city of Chicago: the Exquisite trilogy, the Temptation series, the Sunset Cove duet, the Preslocke trilogy (co-written with Brooke Blaine), the Confessions series, the Prime Time trilogy, the Intentions duet, and the Dare to Try trilogy (also co-written with Brook Blaine). Each series can be read independently of the others, but why do that when you can fall in love with the Chicagoverse book world and see why so many are taken with it?

Wicked Flame picks up where Wicked Heat left off, and I've been itching to find out how Jameson and Ryan were going to move forward after the fiasco during the charity dinner. There's a smidgen of angst to be found in this conclusion to Superman and Lois's, erm, the Grump and his GQ's, umm, Jameson and Ryan's story. And by "angst", I don't mean "drama". Those two are completely different things. There are a lot of lighthearted moments to be found as well, and have I mentioned the swoon-worthy gestures Jameson and Ryan have going on? There's a lot of sweet to go with the steam, as is always the case when it comes to Ella Frank's romances. Also, the epilogue is, hands down, one of my all-time favorites when it come to the romance genre, and that's saying something since I happen to read a lot. Five stars for Wicked Flame, and I can't wait for more Chicago Heat.
