Review: 40 and (Tired of) Faking It by Ella Sheridan (Silver Foxes of Black Wolf's Bluff #1)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Give Me Books Promotions.

Ella Sheridan is a new-to-me author and my introduction to her writing has come by way of the first book in her Silver Foxes of Black Wolf's Bluff series. 40 and (Tired of) Faking It is the story of Lily Easton and John David Lane. She's about to turn forty and she's the mayor of Black Wolf's Bluff, Tennessee; he's forty-eight and a successful real estate developer. When his late grandmother leaves him the family estate in their hometown, JD decides to bring in his closest friends to build a five-star resort on the property. In order to get off to a positive start, he knows touching base with the "lady mayor" would be his best move. But Lily is not quite what he expected. She may be charmed by him, but she's got ideas of her own when it comes to the benefits that the planned resort can offer their small town. The more he's around her, though, the more JD realizes the benefits of being around a woman like Lily and the town of Black Wolf's Bluff that is now growing on him.

Not only did I seriously like Lily and JD's story, but I'm quite taken with the Tennessee town of Black Wolf's Bluff. Romances that have the main characters in their forties hold a special place in my heart. After all, that's my age group, and inasmuch as I'm not picky about how old (or young) the characters may be in the books I read, there's just something about reading about people who I have that extra bit that I can relate to. Lily and JD were immediately taken with one another, and while things may seem to have developed between them quickly, it didn't really feel like an insta-love type of story, not that I don't enjoy those from time to time. Quite a bit happens from the moment they meet till the end. I loved how Lily truly came into her own and how JD's own dreams shifted a bit. I'm giving 40 and (Tired of) Faking It 4.5 stars and look forward to book two.
