Review: The Breakfast Club Collection by Felice Stevens

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Buoni Amici Press.

The Breakfast Club Collection is a compilation of all the currently available full-length novels and short stories from Felice Stevens's Breakfast Club series. My introduction to Stevens's writing was post-publication of the full-length books and a couple of the short stories, so this was my first opportunity to read anything related to this series. It took me two days to read the entire collection, but I enjoyed getting to know the three best friends who met regularly for breakfast at once each month and how they find not only love but come into their as individuals, too.

The titles included in the compilation are Beyond the Surface, Betting on Forever, Second to None, What Lies Between Us, Hot Date, A Holiday to Remember, and Two Daddies for Christmas. Beyond the Surface (second chance) and Hot Date are about fashion designer Julian Cornell and firefighter Nicholas Fletcher, Betting on Forever (fling to forever) and What Lies Between Us are about computer whiz Zachary Cohen and police officer turned private investigator Sam Stein, and Second to None (enemies to friends to lovers), A Holiday to Remember, and Two Daddies for Christmas are about club owner Marcus Fletcher and trained dancer turned dance teacher Tyler Reiss.

There's a fair bit of angst to be found in all three full-length novels and a hint of it in the short stories, but there are also a good amount of lighthearted moments as well, especially when it comes to the three best friends, Julian, Zach, and Marcus, and their interactions with one another. More often than not, the conflict they have with their respective romantic interests (turned partners) has to do with something about their pasts and a lack of communication. Misunderstandings abound--some of which are rooted in mishandled good intentions--which did get frustrating at times, but at the heart of this series is what I loved most about it: friendship, family, and love. If you love your M/M stories with heat and heart, you can't go wrong with The Breakfast Club Collection. Four stars. ♥
