Review: The Past Comes Home by Silvia Violet (Ames Bridge #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Signal Boost Promotions in exchange for an honest review.

The Past Comes Home is the second book in author Silvia Violet's small-town romance series entitled Ames Bridge. When he was fourteen, Paxton Marshall had a crush on his older brother's best friend, Brad Watson, and that clued Pax in on the fact that he liked boys and not girls. Eighteen years later, Pax and Brad meet up but under the most somber of circumstances--to lay Pax's brother--Brad's best friend--to rest. The loss is a heavy one for both men, but once they've said their goodbyes to the man they both loved, they go their separate ways yet again. It is until Brad's twentieth high school reunion that Pax sees him once more, only this time, Brad looks like a man on a mission. The man has a secret he's been keeping from Pax for two decades, and he intends to say what's on his mind--and in his heart--before he returns to Chicago. But can the past ever find home in a place like Ames Bridge?

I enjoyed the first Ames Bridge book, Down on the Farm, so I was looking forward to seeing what was up next in Silvia Violet's series. There were a couple of surprises in terms of the direction of the story, and they were good surprises because I do like it when an author is able to keep me on my toes. Pax and Brad are two really great main characters who've had a thing for one another for what feels like forever. The four-year age difference isn't an issue with them now, but I could see how it would have been one when Pax was fourteen and Brad was eighteen--the ages they were when they first took notice of one another on a more than platonic level. The part about Pax's brother was a poignant one, yet it wasn't as much of a catalyst as I thought it would be. There was push and pull and chemistry between the two, plus the supporting cast was entertaining. Four stars go to The Past Comes Home. ♥
