Review: Holiday Ever After by Various Authors
Free holiday anthologies have been all the rage this weekend, and Holiday Ever After is the third one that I've had the pleasure of reading. This collection consists of eleven short stories from Amy Andrews, Kate Canterbary, J.H. Croix, Erika Kelly, Kimberly Kincaid, Maria Luis, Natasha Madison, Erin Nicholas, Lucy Score, Lili Valente, and Willow Winters. Because this Christmas anthology has more stories compared to the other two that I've read, I'm posting my reviews on the stories that I was able to read first. I'll be editing this review as I finish all the remaining stories, so I'm going to give individual ratings since I can't really give a final rating to the entire anthology at the moment.
MILF on the Shelf is by Lili Valente, and it's the a spin-off short story of the author's Magnificent D novel (previously titled Magnificent Bastard and the first in her Sexy Flirty Dirty series). Thirty-seven-year-old single mother and house flipper Maggie Peterson decides to avail of the services of an twenty-nine-year-old escort named Zachary Cooper for an annual holiday ball. I absolutely adored Maggie and Coop, and they had a sweet story that had me grinning from ear to ear. That necessary connection was present from the get-go, and I loved the lighthearted feel throughout, as well as the fun twist. Maggie's sixteen-year-old daughter, Lexi, was such a hoot! This gets five stars.
Tempt the Assistant is written by Natasha Madison, and it's part of her Tempt series but can be read as a standalone. Shane and Isabella having been working well together for the past five years. What neither one is aware of, however, is the fact that they've been crushing on each other for quite some time but have chosen not to act on it...until the night of the office Christmas party. This was another fun-filled story that brought the laughs as well as some heat and heart. Just like Lili Valente, Madison is one of my favorite go-to authors, so reading their stories first was a no-brainer and they're definitely the sort of reads that feel like tempting holiday treats. 4.5 stars.
All I Want is a Kiss is from Willow Winters, and Winters is the third go-to author whose story I jumped straight to once I got this anthology, and for good reason! Olivia and Nicholas hook up ever now and again, particularly when one or both of them has a conference they're attending. Neither one is dating anyone else on the regular, but no promises of commitment have ever been made. It's been good so far, but is a no-strings-attached affair still good enough for either of them? This was a story that had a lot of steam to it, as you would expect from a Winters read. I liked that bit of angst thrown into the whole romance, making this a strong 4.5-starred short story that I enjoyed. ♥
