Review: The Tip-Off by Rebecca Jenshak (Smart Jocks #3)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Wildfire Marketing Solutions.

Rebecca Jenshak is back with the third novel in her Smart Jocks series, and it's a slow-burn romance with a acquaintances-to-friends-to-lovers feel to it. The Tip-Off has soon-to-be graduate and incoming NBA draftee Zeke Sweets and Valley University transfer and incoming college senior Gabriella (whose last name I don't recall being mentioned in any of the books BUT if anyone out there remembers it, please feel free to leave me a comment!). For years, Zeke has had one goal and one goal in his life--to make in the NBA--and he's THIS close to getting there, already considered one of the top picks for the upcoming draft after graduation. On the other hand, Gabby has a bucket list now that she's a student in the college of her dreams, hoping to make up for lost time and live it up. He's never allowed anything or anyone to distract him, but Zeke can't seem to not pay attention to the beautiful girl with scars she tries to cover up. There are a lot of things she'd love to do, and if she can get her new future NBA-playing friend to come out of his shell, all the better. Neither Z nor Gabby intends to fall in love...until they do.

The thing I love best about slow-burn romance reads is that I get to know the main characters as they get to know each other, and maybe it's just me, but that has me even more emotionally invested in them. I liked that Zeke was this basketball player who knew just how good he was at the game, but wasn't some cocksure jock off the court, constantly trying to find someone to have sex with. His far more quiet nature was a refreshing change from the usual. Gabby was such a wonderful young woman, someone who not only survived a devastating accident but intends to thrive. I've been hoping she'd get her own book from the moment she was introduced in the first few pages of the first Smart Jocks novel, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one. Rebecca Jenshak has rewarded readers with a wonderfully inspiring story of two people who know what it's like to have life as they knew change without warning yet they set goals, wanting better for themselves. Jenshak was a new-to-me author when I started this series, and now, picking up a new read from her has become a no-brainer. The Tip-Off is a 4.5-starred winner. ♥
