Review: Scoring the Player by Samantha Lind (Indianapolis Eagles #2)

Scoring the Player is the second and latest book in Indianapolis Eagles, a hockey romance series penned by Samantha Lind. This time around, we've got a hockey player with a reputation for being a ladies' man who changes his manwhoring ways when he meets the woman who could very well be "the one". Brian Kelly has never had a problem convincing a woman to become his, and that was just as a hookup--something completely temporary. With Kinley Williams, however, Brian's got his work cut out for him. He wants a relationship with her--something a bit more permanent---but as close as they may have gotten, Kinley doesn't seem all that ready to jump in to anything commitment-wise. So what if he consumes her every waking thought? So what if he's the only man that Kinley wants to be with? She wants what Brian's offering, but is Kinley ready to take it and finally score her player?
Part of this story overlaps with events that occur in the first book, Just Say Yes, but I think you can read this second one independently of the series starter, although curiosity may get the better of you with regards to Scott Taylor and Becca Phillips's story. Just like the one before it, this is a story free of angst and pretty much has both the main characters meandering their way towards their expected happy ending. Again, there's a whole lot of telling rather than a whole lot of showing here, which led to me skimming quite a bit because it was taking what felt like forever for Kinley to get over herself and her unfounded hang-ups regarding being with Brian. You would think that after months of getting to know the guy, she would have trusted what she was experiencing personally rather than anything else. Sigh. I was so hoping for more, but Scoring the Player hit but didn't really score with me. Three stars. ♥
