Review: Baby Maker by P. Dangelico (It Takes Two #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.

Baby Maker is the first novel in the brand-new It Takes Two series and my fifth read from author P. Dangelico. Here we've got ourselves two people who don't believe in marriage but have come to a point in their lives where they want the same thing: a child of their own. Stella Donovan is nearly thirty-four, and Dane Wylder is almost thirty-five. She's a financial manager, and he's a retired professional player. They've both achieved success in their professional lives, but neither one has come close to committing to someone when it came to their personal lives. They're both looking for someone to co-parent with, and that's as much of a commitment as they're willing to give. When a mutual friend suggests they meet, it seems as if, other than their mutual desire to have a child, they don't have all that much in common. Stella is apprehensive about Dane being her co-parent, but Dane's decided that Stella's it for him...or at least she's it as far as becoming the mother to his unborn child. Can these two strong-willed individuals find enough common ground to have a baby...and more?

I do enjoy P. Dangelico's storytelling! This time around, though, it feels as if she's taken things up a notch or two. From the enticing combination of feisty and flirty from her two main characters to her creative approach to the whole arranged pregnancy story line, the author mixed wit with warmth and came up with what I feel is her best work to date. I liked that Stella wasn't a pushover and that Dane was more than willing to convince Stella that them becoming co-parents was inevitable. Theirs wasn't a love match--or at least it was never meant to be one--but then neither one was looking for love. He was egg-hunting and she was, umm, sperm-hunting. These two proved to be thoroughly entertaining, but even amidst the lighthearted moments, there was also a hint of angst thrown in. There are reasons why Dane and Stella weren't pro-marriage and why they felt now was the time to have a child. Getting to know them made falling in love with their story inescapable. I'm curious to see what Dangelico has up next for this fun series, and I shall be excitedly waiting for it. Five stars for Baby Maker. ♥
