Review: Taken with You by Carrie Ann Ryan (Fractured Connections #3.5)

I'd been looking forward to reading the story of Beckham Masters and Meadow Brown since I finished reading Falling with You last year. These two were always in the Fractured Connections series' periphery, so I was excited when I learned they were getting their own novella. From the moment Beckham saw Meadow, he knew she was someone extraordinary. But as attracted as he may have been to her, he knew getting close would be a bad idea. It doesn't seem she's interested in him anyway, what with the obvious wariness she has whenever he's around. But during their friends' wedding, Beckham kisses Meadow--and she kisses him back. Now, they can't stop thinking about each other, and as unsure as they are about what the future may hold, maybe getting close is a risk worth taking. However, will their respective cache of secrets prove that their first instinct to stay away was right all along?

Sigh. Writing this part of this review isn't easy, especially given the fact that I loved the three full-length novels that came before this novella. Maybe my high expectations were too lofty, setting me up for disappointment, but as much as I wanted to absolutely fall in love with this book as much as I did the others, I just couldn't connect with the characters or their story at the level I'd hoped for. I know novellas are short and that stories can be rushed, and this one certainly had both, but it was missing something that I can't pinpoint. It had the angst and drama, which can be found in the first three, but it never took off for me, and I was left wanting. It was fun seeing the older Connellys and their significant others, and I hope we get Dillon's story in the future. Three stars for Taken with You. ♥
