Review: Indulge Me by J. Kenner (Stark Ever After #10)

Indulge Me is the tenth addition to the collection of novellas in J. Kenner's Stark Ever After series, which are extended epilogues of the sort--or at times preludes to an upcoming novel within the Stark universe. Here we find Damian Stark and Nikki Fairchild Stark, who have the sort of marriage that others envy. Being as financially untouchable as Damian has its benefits but even all his money and power wasn't able to save his older daughter, Lara, from being taken and from Nikki to reverting back to a coping mechanism they believed was no longer viable. Lara is back safe and sound, but the shadows still linger, particularly around Nikki, and try as she might, she cannot hide her anxiety and worry from the only man who knows her inside and out. And while Damian's making strides in creating a security force to protect not only his family but countless and defenseless others, he needs to make Nikki see that she isn't as weak as she believes herself to be, and he's willing to push her boundaries to show her.
As always, I enjoy these interludes with Damian and Nikki, more so since they became parents to Lara and Anne. There are no major "whoa" moments here, but we do see Damian once again show how he's the best equipped to care for Nikki because his understanding of his wife is unlike anyone else's. From California to France, the Starks handle their darker moments their own way. The sex and romance that are very much synonymous with this couple are still very much here, and even if this is a really quick read, fans of the series in general will be happy to see that their love continues to conquer all. Now, it should go without saying that the original Stark full-length novels MUST be read before reading this because then you'll have a better understanding of what makes these two and their relationship tick. There are also side characters from other Stark universe spin-offs but you don't necessarily need to read any of those in order to fully grasp Damian and Nikki's story. Indulge Me snags four stars. ♥
