Review: My Next Play by Carrie Ann Ryan (On My Own #3)

My Next Play is the third novel in the On My Own college romance series from bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan. This is Miles Fraser and Nessa Carlan's story. If you've read the previous books in the series, My One Night and My Rebound, it was pretty obvious that Nessa had a thing for her best friend, Pacey Ziglar, and while Pacey loved Nessa, he wasn't in love with her. She's determined to move on, especially since she realizes that what she felt for Pacey was more of a crush. But unrequited feelings, regardless of its intensity, can still hurt. Just ask Miles, who has his own not-so-platonic feelings for Nessa. He chooses not to pursue anything other than friendship, but when Nessa's safety is put at risk, Miles steps in. Soon enough, the two grow increasingly closer and lean on each other. What happens when someone decides the idea of them together is unacceptable?

I've been looking forward to Miles and Nessa's story, and Carrie Ann Ryan most certainly did not disappoint. I liked seeing these two forge their way towards not just a romantic relationship, but a far closer friendship as well. Their respective back stories were heartrending, and while they had support systems already in place, they weren't all that forthcoming with even those closest to them, choosing instead to keep specific things to themselves. There's also a suspense aspect to this story, what with someone becoming rather fixated and not being all too happy with the turn of events between Miles and Nessa. One of my favorite things about this series is the friendships that exist among Miles and his housemates as well as Nessa with her own roommates, which makes for a great new adult (NA) and college romance series. My Next Play has earned itself five stars.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
