Review: The Winter We Collided by Victoria Denault (Ocean Pines #2)
Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.
The Winter We Collided is the second novel in Victoria Denault's Ocean Pines series, and this time around, we've got a single-parent romance with a second chance at finding love angle to it. This is Chloe Hale and Logan Hawkins's story, and it can be read independently of the series starter, The Fall We Fell, although that was a good read and the Hawkins clan are at the heart of this series, which means they're recurring characters, so you may want to check out book one before (or after) reading this new one.
Renting out the converted storage room and double-car garage of the house she inherited would help Chloe Hale earn some extra income while taking on more clients for her web design business. Having paramedic Logan Hawkins lease it achieves exactly that. Naming the guy as her emergency contact when she slips and suffers a concussion wasn't part of her plan though. But soon enough, the two grow closer and any hope of keeping their distance from each other was thrown to the wayside. Maybe this is a chance for Chloe to find love again, but will their tragic pasts and dark secrets leave them to crash and burn?
This book had me stuck in bed, refusing to be distracted by anyone or anything the entire time I was reading it. Chloe and Logan were such good people who deserved to have their happily-ever-after, and while it may have seemed that the path there would be an evenly paved one, these two had to deal with the ghosts of their pasts if there was any hope for them to have a future together. Victoria Denault wrote their story in a way that had me, hook, line, and sinker. I was wholly invested in these two and their journey. I also liked seeing how Logan's family was a pillar of support, as was the community of Ocean Pines. The Winter We Collided is a story of love, family, and redemption, and gets 4.5 stars. I'm excited for the next novel, especially after what Denault wrote in her acknowledgments.
