Review: Wicked Lies by Lora Leigh (Men of Summer #2)

Jazz Lancing had his heart set on a girl that was too young for him but after losing her to a fire that also took her mother, Jazz tried to move on. When he meets kindergarten teacher Annie Mayes, he's drawn to her in ways that go beyond the physical. But he knows there's something that Annie's keeping from him and everyone else in Loudon, Tennessee, a secret that she never intends to reveal, even to the one man who's always owned her heart, if she hopes to stay alive and protect Jazz and those closest to her. When Jazz learns the truth, he'll have to call in his markers and favors if he hopes to keep Annie safe from harm.
Wicked Lies is the second novel in the Men of Summer series from bestselling author Lora Leigh and it was more than a nine-year wait for those who enjoyed the first book, Loving Lies, and were itching to read the sequel. Jazz Lancing can have any woman he wants but he's got his eyes set on Annie Mayes, a woman who's been in town for a couple of years. Doubts as to what Annie is hiding come about when one of Jazz's closest friends mentions that a background check seemed dubious, raising suspicions among Jazz and his brothers. The secret Annie is keeping could cost her her life as well as bring harm to Jazz and her friends.
Annie's secret begins to come to light as far as readers are concerned very early on in the story, though it does take a while for the whole thing to unravel and for Jazz and everyone else to realize who Annie really is. I had to suspend my disbelief here because to not recognize who she was in the amount of time that she was living the area just seemed weird to me, especially given the fact that when everything went down ten years ago, she was already a teenager. However, the reason for her being Annie certainly heightened the mystery thriller aspect since the mastermind, for which I only had one reak suspect, still wanted her dead.
As was the case with the first book, there's a lot of sex in the story, but it didn't feel too gratuitous. Both Jazz and his best friend slash brother Slade Colter appear to have set their sights on the women they wanted when they were in their early twenties and the women were actually still girls in their late teens. I read the blurb for the third book, which is about Zack (whose last name I can't recall and whose name is spelled as Zach in the blurb). Based on the end of this second book, I thought the next book would involve Grace and Zack but obviously I was wrong. Overall, Wicked Lies was a good read and it receives 3.5 stars. ♥
