Note: This ARC was provided by Dreamspinner Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Twenty-two-year-old Hunter Beaumont has lost his beloved grandmother to cancer and he becomes the last remaining living member of their family. He promised to do what she asked--to destroy Beaumont House--but with the betrayal of a man he gave his heart and his money to, Hunter finds himself moving from the home he shared with his grandmother to Beaumont House. Soon after, strange things happen, leaving him questioning his own sanity and wondering who or what could be trying to scare him to death.

A Demon Inside is a standalone horror novel from Rick R. Reed and is about a young man dealing with the loss of his grandmother, the betrayal of a man he trusted, and a house that begins as his refuge but quickly becomes the bane of his existence. This is the second edition of the book is released by DSP Publications, with the original edition having been released in January 2010 by ManLove Romance Press. Beaumont House wasn't merely haunted and there's a creepiness that lingers even when you think everything's okay.

Hunter Beaumont was someone who thought he could start over in the house that has always belonged to his family, but the discovery that something is inhabiting it leads him to take various forms of action in order to beat whatever's there at its game. He was overly trusting in the beginning of the story, so I understood why he was keeping Michael Burt, the caretaker of the neighboring property, at arm's length, but Michael was such a nice fellow that you couldn't help but feel bad every time Hunter rebuffed him.

Rick R. Reed lulls you into a feeling of complacency before unleashing his brand of horror. I liked that the scares didn't feel as if they were thrown about unnecessarily and that there was really a story as to why Beaumont House was possessed. There were times that I found myself frustrated with Hunter and his actions but the overall cast of characters was well-developed. If you're looking for a horror novel that's more than just about gore and giving you the willies, give A Demon Inside a whirl. I'm giving it four stars. ♥
