Review: Age of Ava by Melanie Moreland (Vested Interest: ABC Corp #4)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author.

I've been so looking forward to reading this book ever since I got a hint of who the main characters would be, and Melanie Moreland blew all my expectations out of the water. Age of Ava is the fourth novel in the Vested Interest: ABC Corp series, and yes, it features none other than Ava Callaghan, eldest among the five children and only daughter of Aiden and Cami Callaghan. In her early thirties, Ava serves as ABC Corp's project manager and coordinator, and it's a position she takes great pride in because she worked her butt off for it. Unfortunately, she's still on the receiving end of misogynistic treatment from males who think she's "only" a woman, thereby not thought of as worthy as a man.

Ava is paired with Hunter Owens, grandson of the late Jack Owens who owned the sole piece of property on Port Albany that BAM had repeatedly tried to--and failed--to procure. The forty-something hasn't had a place to call for nearly all his life. As an adult, he's traveled to countless places, finding work wherever he could, usually something to do with construction. With his grandfather leaving him the house in Port Albany, Hunter heads there with his dog, Cash, and decides to give the place a makeover in hopes of renting it out to vacationers. Ava and Hunter have an undeniable connection, one they both agree is worth exploring; but the two also agree it's one that's very much temporary.

Ah, how this book just grabbed a hold of my heart and refused to let go! I loved revisiting with the ABC Corp clan, and getting to know Ava and Hunter allowed me to have a greater appreciation for them as individuals and their journey to their happily-ever-after. I adored how Ava was this force to be reckoned with but also had a softer side to her. She was someone who was dedicated to her family and job. Hunter was the guy who saw beyond the business side of her, but then Ava was the one who helped him realize that he could put down roots and have both a home and a family. Le sigh. Age of Ava had wit and humor and angst and romance, and I so loved every single wonderful bit of it. Five stars!
