Review: Out of Love by RC Boldt (Out of #1)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

“What I do know,” he interrupts, his eyes boring into mine, “is that I don’t want this to stop.” He leans in closer, his cheek brushing lightly against mine before he whispers in my ear, “I don’t want this feeling—whatever it is that’s happening between us—to stop.”
My eyes fall closed at his words. “I don’t want it to stop, either.”

Foster Kavanaugh has never made a secret of the fact that he hooks up with women often, not really in the market for any romantic relationship that would require commitment. However, for the past year, his attention's been snagged by one woman in particular--TriShield Protection's ever-efficient and always snarky office manager, Noelle Davis. They exchange barbs more than they do pleasantries but it's become foreplay of sorts between the two, even if neither one is ready to risk crossing the line. Foster's experience as a Navy SEAL brings with it a case of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that Foster isn't willing to share with any therapist and the last thing he wants is to taint someone like Noelle with his sins while in service. But the more he denies himself the one woman he wants, the more he can't help but crave something that he never believed possible before: forever with Noelle.

Noelle Davis escaped an abusive relationship, one that has led her to put an embargo on anything to do with men other than platonic and professional connections. But there's no denying how her eyes sweep over her boss's physical attributes, because Foster Kavanaugh is one gorgeous male specimen. But there's no way that she could ever even consider doing anything about her attraction to him. She likes her job and the people she works with. She looks forward to the boss man slinging a snarky remark more than once a day her way. She promised herself she would move on with her life, but when her past comes making its presence felt in the most undeniable of ways, she knows she can't go it alone and it's Foster who's there first by her side. When their friendship transitions into a relationship, what was once physical begins to become more. Can Noelle afford to risk her heart on Foster?

I've read all of author RC Boldt's past releases, but I have to say, Out of Love is my favorite. This spin-off novel from her Teach Me series--and what I'm guessing is the first in a still unnamed series featuring the guys of TriShield Protection--showcases just how much the author has grown over the span of five books. There's a beautiful fluidity to her storytelling and her characters are thoroughly threshed out, making them easier to fall in love with and root for. I loved the addition of suspense in this story because I'm not one to say "no" to a bit more excitement. If my suspicion is right and the other books I spied on Goodreads that all began with "Out" are part of a series for the TriShield guys or those connected to them, then kudos to RC Boldt because not only did I love Foster and Noelle's story, but she's piqued my curiosity for the rest of the non-Teach Me characters. Five-plus stars go to Out of Love. ♥
