Puck Love is the newest standalone from bestselling author Carmen Jenner, and here she combines two tropes--rock romance and sports romance. She introduces readers to the good girl of country music and the bad boy of professional hockey, Stella Hart and Van Ross, respectively. When the pressure of her career as a singer and her reputation as country music's sweetheart gets too much for her to bear, Stella hijacks an SUV and drives off, wanting to get as far away as possible from everything and anything that's expected of her. When she ends up crashing, it's Van who rescues her. Stella goes into hiding and Van's home becomes the perfect spot for her to hole up in. Everyone seems to be searching high and low for her. As unhappy as Van is at all the baggage that comes with Stella, he can't help but be protective of her. There's a connection between them that neither one can ignore, but they know that reality is going to be rearing its ugly face sooner or later. They have reputations that precede them, and there are people who don't want them together, but if they give this--them--a shot, they may just win.

Carmen Jenner did a pretty good job melding together two worlds that have as many similarities as they do differences. Stella and Van are celebrities and considered to be among the best in their respective fields. They also have public personas that countless people believe to be who they really are. I really liked how both Van and Stella saw beyond those reputations the other had and made the effort to truly get to know one another. There's a fair amount of angst in the story, but I don't think it was anything too overwhelming or simply put in for the sake of stirring up drama. I could empathize with what Stella was going through. After all, I'm sure there are many of us who know exactly what it's like to have all these expectations weighing us down, and then try to live up to those expectations or to whatever idea people have in their heads about who or what we should be like? The book, though, isn't overly heavy, especially since it's perfectly balanced out by the banter and flirtation that goes on between Stella and Van. Puck Love was a lighthearted romance that hit the spot quite nicely, and I give it four stars. ♥
