Review: Love War by Cary Hart (Battlefield of Love #1)

Cary Hart is a new-to-me author, and Love War is the first in her Battlefield of Love series. This was a story about two people who thought they had found love but discovered that not all love stories have happy endings. When thirty-two-year-old Aubrey Harris ends her twelve-year marriage, she did so because she knew that she--and her ex-husband Doug--deserved better, especially their six-year-old daughter Reece. Nine months later, her best friend encourages her to move on with her love life. One anonymous kiss is all it takes to spark something within her, but thirty-five-year-old divorced dad Andrew Williams seems to be unsure whether or not to pursue the single mom whose captured his attention. As Drew's daughter Andie quickly becomes besties with Reece, Drew and Aubrey begin to forge a relationship of their own, but will they survive the turn of events that will befall each one of them?

Love War was a pretty good read, minor editing errors aside. There's A LOT of push and pull between Drew and Aubrey, but I did like how their love story played out, and their respective daughters certainly proved to be scene-stealers. There's a major twist that happens in the last quarter of the book, and it was one that caught me by surprise, albeit it did come off as something that I could see happening in a telenovela or soap opera. I did find the resolution of that particular twist rather unrealistic, especially given the enormity of betrayal and deceit that came into play. I mean, come on, are Drew and Aubrey THAT nice? But oh well, a happy ending is a happy ending, and the story was a good one nonetheless. The author's writing style was different, and while the use of one-word descriptors was teeny, tiny bit overdone, I certainly believe Cary Hart holds promise. I'm giving Love War 3.5 stars. ♥
