Review: Forever Our Boys by Heidi McLaughlin (Beaumont #5.5)

Forever Our Boys is a hybrid of sorts, and quite ingenious, to be honest. Heidi McLaughlin doesn't necessarily close the door to the original cast of characters--to the family readers have gotten to know and fallen in love with--of her Beaumont series with this novella. What she does is leave the door ajar because as much as the couples--the three main ones being Liam and Josie Westerbury, Katelyn Powell and Harrison James, and Jimmy and Jenna Davis, plus the other peripheral couples, Nick and Aubrey Ashford and, to a lesser extent, Xander and Yvie Knight--because as much as they'll be featured in the upcoming spin-off series, their love stories have been told. It's time to turn the spotlight on the next generation, but before doing that, readers and fans of the series spend some time in the surf and on the sand with Josie, Katelyn, and Jenna, best friends who found love in Beaumont and now live with fame.
As much as they hated being away from their respective families, best friends Josie, Katelyn, and Jenna are excited to take a week off from the hustle and bustle of their lives. Even as they take some time off in the Bahamas, the three know all too well how protective and caring the men in their lives are. I think that what this novella points out is that not everything is resolved in the first or even pass of one's retelling of their story, but even if there is no such thing as an absolute happily-ever-after, these families do love the lives that they have and they make the most of it. If you've never read any of the books in the series, I'm going to seriously recommend that you do before reading this. Forever Our Boys ends in a cliffhanger, and this is just one reason this novella was ingenious. After all, you WILL want to know what happens next, and it IS the precursor the Beaumont: The Next Generation. 4.5 stars. ♥
