Review: Eternal by Cecy Robson (Carolina Beach #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via Barclay Publicity in exchange for an honest review.

Cecy Robson takes us back to North Carolina with the second novel in her Carolina Beach series! Eternal is about Landon Summers, an engineer turned lawyer, and Lucianna Diaz, an office manager for a law firm. The two meet at a New Year's party, and while neither one was looking to hook up with anyone, the chemistry between the two has them going from one night to a weekend that feels like so much more. But letting go of Luci so she can return to New Jersey is exactly what Landon does, no matter how frustrated he becomes over their situation. The last thing he expects is to see her again in the very law firm he's about to start working at and in Charlotte, North Carolina of all places. The attraction between the two of them is stronger than ever, but Luci doesn't want any trouble brewing by getting involved with someone at work, and Landon isn't sure if he trusts his feelings, not when the one time he did, he ended up marrying a woman who never loved him enough and cheated on him. Everything between them feels like the real thing, but are Landon and Luci willing to go all in and see if what they have could last a lifetime?

Eternal was an angst-free read, which I, being the angst-addicted romance reader that I am, actually appreciate from time to time. Luci and Landon had one of those stories that started off being nothing more than a one-time thing, but then they simply clicked. There was a bit of a misunderstanding between them, but it wasn't some overly convoluted thing that had them flinging wild accusations at one another. Whatever was thrown their way, they seemed to manage through it all like mature adults (FINALLY!) because if it's one thing I don't have time for, it's when main characters in a book do not act like their age. The story never felt rushed, so by the time we get to the expected happy ending, it feels like everything has fallen into place at just the right time. I think my one "complaint" was how that ending slightly veered attention away from Luci and Landon by the mention of one of the supporting characters who clearly has an unresolved past with another supporting character. Other than that, though, I enjoyed this second Carolina Beach story and look forward to the third book. I'm giving Eternal four stars. ♥
