Review: Entice by Ella Frank (Exquisite #2)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Entice is the second novel Ella Frank's Exquisite series, and if you've read the first book, then you'll more than recognize Shelly Monroe, a pulmonologist in Chicago's University Hospital and best friend to Lena O'Donnell from book one, Exquisite. Now that Lena's found her happily-ever-after with Mason Langley, the twosome are headed down the aisle, and naturally, Shelly is Lena's maid of honor. That means she's partnered with Mason's best man, Joshua Daniels. She doesn't expect the man to be so deliciously enticing, but that's exactly what Josh turns out to be. However, as attracted as she is to the guy, he's not someone who could ever qualify as relationship-worthy. Shelly says the bad boy exterior with a blue collar background, and what she needs is a man she can have on her arm who is reliable and ambitious and follows through. But what she doesn't get is that Josh is all that and more...

This may make me sound snarky, but here goes--I get why Shelly and Lena were best friends. These two had a bad habit of making baseless assumptions about the very men they ended up falling for. Sure, Shelly's experience with men who were lazy and directionless made her wary, but she made judgments about Josh without really getting her facts straight first. Sigh. However, that doesn't mean that Shelly was someone not worth liking. After all, that side of her that I found endearing in the first book--her being gregarious yet insightful--was still quite present. I think that this second in a series did humanize her. She had her flaws and she definitely made mistakes, but she recognized her failings and eventually learned from them. And this time around, it was her best friend Lena who was there to help her see sense when need be, and I think it was quite fantastic to see just how far Lena had come.

What is it about the men in this series?! First Mason, now Josh. Could we get any more swoon-worthy? There was so much more to him than meets the eye. He may have seemed like a particular type on the outside, but he proved to be someone who knew what he wanted and went after it guns blazing, and that included being with his man-eater, aka Shelly. The fact that he adores Mutley, his German Shepherd, earned him bonus points in my eyes. The clincher, however, was what he had been doing all that time he was away from Shelly. It was clearly served a dual purpose, allowing her to come to terms to what it was she truly wanted and him to put his plan into action. I mean, hello, had a man done for me what he did for Shelly, I'd be a fool to say no. And well, Shelly was no fool. As a side note, we get a hint of what awaits Rachel Langley and Cole Madison here! Four out of five stars go to Entice. ♥
