Review: Fire in You by Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J. Lynn (Wait for You #6)

Note: This ARC was provided by the author via InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review.

Fire in You is the sixth and latest full-length novel in the Wait for You romance series penned by bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J. Lynn (yes, the pen name's back for this one). All of the previous releases in the series, including the novellas, were released under well-known publishing houses, but this new installment in the series is self-published. Also, while the other stories basically followed a timeline consisting of a difference of a few months or so between stories, Jillian Lima and Brock Mitchell's story fast-forwards about seven years since the events in the previous release, though Brock has been around since in Stay with Me and Jillian since Dream of You.

Jillian Lima was an innocent eight-year-old when her father brought home Brock Mitchell who, at fourteen, has experienced more hardships than a child his age should have been through. From the moment she shares her teddy bear with him that first night he spends in the Lima homestead, the bond between them is made and over the years it strengthens into a friendship they both cherish. But as Jillian becomes a teenager and then enters her twenties, she feels something more for Brock. Unfortunately, he can't seem to move past seeing her as a little sister. When Brock irrevocably breaks her heart, Jillian's life changes forever, inspiring her to leave him in the past.

Brock Mitchell would do anything to change what happened that night outside of Mona's, but he knows that isn't possible. In the years since, the girl who's always been closest to him has pushed him away, distancing herself from him, refusing to have any sort of contact. When she agrees to take her rightful place as part of Lima Academy, Brock sees it as his second chance to be the kind of man he should have been all along. But he's hurt Jillian more times than he realizes, leaving her jaded and wary of his intentions. How can Brock prove to Jillian that he's exactly what she needs and that she's the woman he wants and will they survive the onslaught of guilt, doubt, and anger?

It took me several chapters to get over my dislike of Brock. I mean, I didn't have any issues with him in the past books, but after they way he treated Jillian here and how cocky he was thinking that everything was going to be okay between the two of them when they started working together rubbed me the wrong way. I seriously wanted him to grovel and I was kind of hoping Jillian would actually make him work much harder than he did to win back her trust and affection. But the heart wants what it wants and I did like Jillian and Brock was okay later on, so all in all, Fire in You very much lives up to what the Wait for You series is about and gets four stars. I hope it isn't the last! ♥
