Review: Dream of You by Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J. Lynn (Wait for You #4.5)

Dream of You is a novella in Jennifer L. Armentrout's Wait for You series and features Detective Colton Anders and freelance editor Abby Erickson. Colton was introduced in the previous full-length novel as the older brother of Deputy Reece Anders, with both of them working together on figuring out who was stalking Reece's girlfriend Roxy Ark. Here, Colton and Abby meet after Abby witnesses a murder with the perpetrators noticing her before she was able to escape undetected. Colton is brought in to work the case, but he's also pleasantly surprised to cross paths with Abby, having noticed her when they were in high school, even if he was a few years ahead of her. Abby, of course, noticed Colton as well, even if she did have a boyfriend, the same guy who she ended up marrying and later losing. Will having Abby as a witness in a crime Colton is investigating be the right beginning to a relationship?

This novella was a good read, maybe not at the same level as the book that came before it, but it was still a story that I enjoyed reading and I'm glad that Colton was able to get his own happily-ever-after. I liked that there wasn't this constant comparison between Colton and Abby's late husband Kevin because that would have completely turned me off from the story. The one time that an attempt to compare the two men was amended so as to make it seem as if it was more of Abby contemplating the difference between her having met and fallen for Kevin as a young woman and now falling for Colton as a more mature one. The suspense part of the story had its high points, although it did feel as if it started with such a bang only to have it fizzle out by the end. Still, Dream of You was a commendable, quickie read, one that fits in well with the series yet stands out too. This gets four out of five stars. ♥
