Review: My Unexpected Surprise by Piper Rayne (The Greene Family #5)

Piper Rayne's newest Greene Family novel is a surprise pregnancy romance, and boy, oh boy, did it surprise me! This is Fisher Greene's story, and he shares it with Allie (whose last name I don't recall being mentioned at any point in the story...unless it was and I missed it). He's Sunrise Bay's sheriff, and he makes no secret of the fact that he doesn't do relationships nor does he believe in true love and all that jazz. His siblings and step-siblings may be happy being all loved up and domestic, but that isn't Fisher's thing. When he sees Allie again after they shared a hot hookup five months ago, he's in shock upon discovering she's pregnant and he's the baby daddy. They've got issues they'll need to settle and neither one thinks they'll be walking down the aisle, but if it's one thing Fisher will make sure of is that Allie is safe and taken care of during her pregnancy...and maybe even become a true family.

Oh, Fisher... The guy had control issues, but once I got to know more about him, I understood why he was the way he was. Allie most certainly wasn't someone who would allow herself to be steam-rolled...well, unless it was Dori Bailey and Ethel Greene (aka the dynamic matchmaking senior duo for all Baileys and Greenes) doing the steam-rolling. These two--Fisher and Allie, not Dori and Ethel--had that awesome back and forth that I enjoy between main characters who have yet to find their footing and realize that they're meant to be. Now, I've read A LOT of surprise pregnancy romances, but Piper and Rayne (the awesome twosome) managed to surprise me with how much of the story played out. Fisher and Allie had stuff that needed to be addressed, especially the former, but their happily-ever-after was so worth it. Bonus points for Bailey cameos! Five stars go to My Unexpected Surprise.

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
