Review: Shelter by Kristen Proby (Heroes of Big Sky #2)

Note: An advance reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Valentine PR.

I can't believe we've reached the end of the Big Sky saga! Beginning with Love Under the Big Sky series and then all the spin-offs--Big Sky, Big Sky Royal, and Heroes of Big Sky--plus the multi-author Big Sky Crossover books, I've devoured every single book belonging to this book world, and I've loved spending time in the fictional town of Cunningham Falls, Montana. And now here we are, with the final romance, and I've got major bittersweet feelings, so I most definitely relished every single last moment I had in this book world. Though I actually didn't know this would be the final book until I saw the author mention it in her newsletter!

Shelter is the second full-length novel and third release in Kristen Proby's Heroes of Big Sky series. Remi Carter has no regrets leaving behind the life she once had back in California. Living in her van as she travels from one place to another has turned out to be her greatest adventure yet. While hiking in Montana, she's caught in a snowstorm. Help comes in the form of Seth King, a hot park ranger who she met at a bar and ghosted--the same one who warned her about the snowstorm. They find shelter and time together makes their connection more undeniable. But will this wandering traveler ever choose to stay in Cunningham Falls?

This was a sweet and heartwarming way to end the Big Sky saga, and I enjoyed how it felt like a true full circle moment. If you're a longtime reader of either Kristen Proby in general or this book universe in particular, you may remember a young Seth in Falling for Jillian (Love Under the Big Sky #3). I loved seeing how much he's grown, and it was gratifying that he found the same kind of forever love his parents, Zack and Jillian, did. Remi was perfect for him, and the realization that Cunningham Falls could be home for her just like it became for him years ago was satisfying. All the cameos from the original series were a bonus. Five stars go to Shelter.
