Review: Uncocky Hero by Alex Grayson (Cocky Hero Club)

I've read a few of the books in Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward's multi-author Cocky Hero Club book universe, and Alex Grayson's Uncocky Hero is my favorite to date. My past reads from Grayson have always had a fair bit of angst to them, and while the same goes for this newest novel, it also felt a tad lighter to me. Also, even though this is part of a shared book world and is inspired by a previous book, Playboy Pilot, it is a standalone, and I never felt as if I had to read something else in order to fully enjoy myself and the story.
Uncocky Hero introduces readers to Cleo Willoughby and Rhys Kelly. She's a flight attendant and he owns a brokerage firm. When their paths cross at the airport for the first time, she's drawn to his physical attributes but quickly turned off by all the cussing that comes out of his mouth. Their second interaction isn't any better, but when she realizes that there's more to the story, she sees him for the nice AND naughty guy that he is. But Cleo knows nothing can come from pursuing anything more than friendship with Rhys, not when she's more than aware of how limited their time together may be.
This book was so much more than I was expecting, and trust me, I was expecting a lot considering I know how well of a storyteller Alex Grayson is. Cleo and Rhys's love story grabbed a hold of my heart and held my attention from start to finish. I was so darn emotionally invested in everything these two went through. I don't want to give anything away, but suffice it to say, that they had to make the conscious choice to pursue something more between them. There were a couple of times that I could feel the tears well up in my eyes. This story had some twists and turns, one quite heartrending, but all of it a testament to love, family, and fate. Five stars for Uncocky Hero.
