Review: It's Not You by Becca Seymour (True Blue #4)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the author via Gay Romance Reviews Tours & Promo.

Becca Seymour takes readers back to the small town of Kirkby as well as the neighboring town of Crescent in her latest installment in the True Blue series. If you've read Always for You, the free novella subscribers receive when they sign up for the author's newsletter, then you'll recall that twenty-seven-year-old Lawrence Crawford may or may not have a thing for former cop turned (his) landlord, thirty-seven-year-old Billy Hilton. In It's Not You, Lawrence and Billy's story doesn't start off on the best foot, but that's what happens when you (Lawrence) finally share a memorable night together, yet you wake up alone and the other person (Billy) returns in time to make it clear that it was a night he regrets. When Billy realizes the actual mistake he made was hurting Lawrence the morning after, months have passed. Is it too late for him to show Lawrence that he's ready for more, and will Lawrence be willing to risk his heart with the man who broke it seven months prior?

Lawrence and Billy's story is definitely my favorite in the series so far. It goes without saying that I loved that there was angst, but I also happened to love that Lawrence and Billy had complicated pasts that have made them somewhat wary and cautious but still absolutely deserving of love and a happily-ever-after. I quite liked the way that any loose ends were resolved on both their parts, particularly Lawrence's because his mother (and it pains me to even use the term for his egg donor) could be Mommie Dearest for the twenty-first century. I suspect I know who one of the main characters for the next book (assuming--and hoping!--there is a next book in this fun M/M small-town romance series) is going to be, but even if it isn't him (yet), I can't wait for more. It's Not You gets 4.5 stars.
