Review: Maintenance Required by Giulia Lagomarsino (Cortell Brothers #1)

Guilia Lagomarsino is a new-to-me author, which makes Maintenance Required my introduction to her writing. It also happens to be the first in her new Cortell Brothers series. Here we have the eldest among the aforementioned group of brothers, thirty-six-year-old engineer Eric, considered responsible and straight-laced, always conscious of following the rules and setting an example for his six younger brothers--Robert, Derek, Josh, Will, Joe, and Andrew. He's never been one to rock the boat or cause trouble. Basically, he's the one seen as the most boring among the brothers, not one to do anything out of the ordinary and a stickler for conformity. So, when he gets the woman he thought was his blind date but turned out to be a one-night stand instead pregnant, no one is more shocked than Eric. Thirty-one-year-old nurse Katherine Beck is nothing like the women he's dated in the past, but she's about to turn his present and future upside down.

Well, color me impressed! There was so much about this series starter that caught me by surprise. From the direction the story took to the main characters themselves, whatever expectations I had were thrown to the wayside, and all I had to do was sit back and enjoy what was before me. I confess that my first impression of Eric wasn't all that great, not with the stuff that came out of his mouth in speaking to and about Kat. The guy really was a stick in the mud, but when he and Kat decided to make a go of trying to form some sort of relationship, slowly but surely, you could see him grow and develop into someone worthy of Kat and willing to take risks. Yes, he faltered at times, but Eric redeemed himself. Kat wasn't perfect either, but I admired her tenacity and that huge heart of hers. I can't wait to see if the rest of the series is as amazing as Maintenance Required. 4.5 stars!
