Review: Drowning in Stars by Debra Anastasia

"It's all about you, Pix." He kissed the top of my head before spinning me and then letting me return to his arms.
"What's all about me?"
"My life." It was simply how it was for Gaze.
I had no words then. Between the love I felt and his devotion, I could only kiss him to let him know how I felt.

While I've read a couple of Debra Anastasia's romantic comedies, it's her more angsty reads that hold precedence in my heart. My introduction to her writing came by way of her Seraphim books, which I quite adored, and I fell further in love with her writing by way of her Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series. For All the Evers is a standalone that simply reiterated how right I was in loving this author's writing. Now, admittedly, it's been a few years since I last read something from Anastasia, but it looks like my timing in re-acquainting myself with her writing is pretty darn on point because her newest standalone is this author at her finest, if I do say so myself.

Drowning in Stars is the story of friendship and love and how they can overcome even the most dire of circumstances. Pixie Rae Stone and Gaze Patrick Jones met on the day Pixie turned twelve--and a day after Gaze turned the same age. Theirs is a friendship that flourishes as they become each other's greatest source of support. Pixie is the one who watches over Gaze, ever protective of this boy who is already the other half of her heart and soul; but he is just as attentive and caring of her, this girl who would not only stand before him to guard him from harm but stood by his side and had his back. Debra Anastasia's writing her was downright intoxicating, and I couldn't get enough of it as her words shared the story of Pixie and Gaze. Dare I say that Drowning in Stars is one of the best romance reads of this year. Five-plus stars.
