Review: The Varsity Dad Dilemma by Lex Martin

Lex Martin is back and she's got one heck of a feel-good, can't-help-but-fall-for-everyone romance about a college football player, the neighbor who hates him, and a baby who could or could not be his daughter. The Varsity Dad Dilemma features Rider Kingston, a college senior and star quarterback and team captain whose one dream in life is to be drafted into the National Football League. His sole focus on football cost him his friendship with Gabriela Duran when they were freshmen--a friendship that most certainly could have been more. Now, they're neighbors, and she's made it pretty clear she wants nothing to do with him. But when Gabby discovers an abandoned baby with a note stating that she belongs to one of the guys living in the house where Gabby's brother also happens to live, she can't help but become involved. Once the paternity's been established, she'll step away. Only Rider's decided he let her go once--he won't do it again.

Gah! This book was such a joy to read! It gave me ALL. THE. FEELS! Rider and Gabby had the sort of crazy connection that demands to be explored, but I also understood Gabby's hesitation considering Rider ghosted her a few years back. I loved that he had to earn back that trust and that she didn't give in to all that Rider-ness right away. Now, as far as the surprise baby angle is concerned, can I just say that I absolutely adore how Lex Martin weaved it into the story? I'm not a huge fan of this particular trope, but the discovery of Poppy (aka the baby) and how she came about to be one of the football players' child was something different and refreshing. This was a story about second chances and taking responsibility and how dreams can shift and change to make way for new ones. I so loved this book, and with such intriguing supporting characters, I REALLY hope The Varsity Dad Dilemma is just the first in a new series. Fingers crossed. Five stars!

Review: The Room Mate by Kendall Ryan (Roommates #1)

I do believe I've found myself a new book boyfriend to drool, erm, swoon over in Cannon Roth, male main character in bestselling author Kendall Ryan's Roommates series starter, The Room Mate . This had a familiar romance trope--falling-for-your-best-friend's-sibling--and yet I didn't find it boring or tiresome in any way. This has both heart and heat as well as lighthearted humor along with a bit of heart-tugging angst and it's headlined by a couple of main characters that I was totally smitten with from the moment Paige got a pretty good idea of just how much her best friend's younger brother Cannon had grown up from the nerdy boy who followed them around like a puppy when they were kids.
