Review: Can't Fight It by Kaylee Ryan & Lacey Black (Fair Lakes #3)

Note: An advanced reader copy (ARC) was provided by the authors via Give Me Books Promotions.

In what I suspect is the final book in their Fair Lakes series, Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black have saved the best for last with the story of a former military guy adjusting to civilian life as a single father and a website designer from California who happens to be on the run. Can't Fight It features thirty-year-old Colton Callahan, older brother of Chase Callahan and brother-in-law of Gabby Connor-Callahan (their story takes place in Just Getting Started, the second book in the Fair Lakes series). Colt had his life planned out and it was all about his military career and standing tall with his brothers-in-arms. The appearance of his son, Milo, on Chase's doorstep changes the trajectory of his life. Colt knows it's time to set down roots in his hometown of Fair Lakes. What he doesn't realize is that his life is about to change again when the tenant set to rent his guesthouse isn't a guy at all--it's a woman named Hollis Taylor.

This book is heavy on the romance with a touch of suspense added in. As far as the romance is concerned, I was an absolute fan. I loved that the first meeting between Colton and Hollis was memorable because he honestly thought he was renting out his guesthouse to a guy and ended up with the most gorgeous girl he'd ever seen. These two shared a connection, and I appreciated that they tried to keep things platonic until they could no longer resist the chemistry sparking between. The addition of Milo was so darn sweet! This third book is my favorite in the series, but the main reason I hesitated in giving it a higher rating had to do with a couple of inconsistencies--i.e. Hollis says she's never been around a baby before but then later tells Colt that she loves babies, and Colt saying all his brothers-in-arms were still enlisted, but then later mentions some have been discharged--and the resolution to the suspense part being anticlimactic. Still, I loved Can't Fight It and give it 4.5 stars.
