Review: Royally Screwed by Lynn Van Dorn

Everything that I've read or listened to from Lynn Van Dorn ever since I discovered her writing late last year has appealed greatly to the romance fiction enthusiast in me. So naturally, my expectations were high when I heard about her latest release. I blame Van Dorn for that because her gift for storytelling has been consistently impressive based on personal past experience. Royally Screwed is her newest book and it's a royal romance with a touch of light kink to it. We're introduced to princes Angelo Devdan Nicolau Laurent Tanzhir and Euripides Drederick Stefan Mirea, simply known as Angelo and Yuri. The two princes (and now I've got the Spin Doctors song playing in my head) have been betrothed since before their births but can't stand each other. But there's a reason why between love and hate lies a too fine line...

I hate to say it but this book fell short of my expectations. The actual timeline felt choppy, like getting bursts of whatever milestones within the relationship between Angelo and Yuri before jumping on to something else. It isn't until much later that there's more of a flow, but then I also had an issue with the actual connection these main characters shared. There's no denying that there was always this spark of something, whether it be positive or negative, whenever they happened to be in each other's vicinity, but it was almost like there wasn't much of a solid foundation to base their non-hostile relationship on. I also couldn't understand why nothing was done about the villain in the story considering it wasn't as if Yuri's family did not know what happened. Had that been nipped in the bud, other events wouldn't have taken place, so it came off as unnecessary drama. Don't get me wrong. I love this author's writing, and I will continue to want to read and listen to her books. This latest one simply fell short, but you can't win them all, right? Three stars go to Royally Screwed.
